This book is the first in the 5 book series written by Prof. P. Sambamoorthy titled A Dictionary of South Indian Music and Musicians. This Volume covers alphabets (A to F).This will be reference book to all Rasikas [including Teacher, Student, and Writer] of Music. It contains summaries on operas and dance dramas. Rare ragas and talas find a mention in this dictionary.Yakshaganas and Kathakali Plays have also been noticed. A few terms pertaining to Western Music have also been incorporated. A total number of 2136 musical items have been noticed in this volume.
About the Author
Pichu Sambamoorthy (1901 - 1973) was an Indian musicologist, writer and the professor of musicology at the Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He was the author several books on music, including A Dictionary of South Indian Music and Musicians, Great composers etc. He was awarded the Madras Music Academys Sangeetha Kalanithi in 1972. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1971, for his contributions to music.
