This book is the first in the 3 book series written by Prof. P. Sambamoorthy titled A Practical Course in Karnatic Music for Beginners And for Use In Schools. This book gives you in detail The Technical Course consisting of preliminary swara exercises and alankaras in Maya malava gowla and sankarabharanam ragam. This book also consists a section on musical Instruments especially Yazh and its classification in an amplified manner. In addition to it, Viraladi exercises given in this book is a great plus.
About the Author
Pichu Sambamoorthy (1901 - 1973) was an Indian musicologist, writer and the professor of musicology at the Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He was the author several books on music, including A Dictionary of South Indian Music and Musicians, Great composers etc. He was awarded the Madras Music Academys Sangeetha Kalanithi in 1972. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1971, for his contributions to music.
